Evil

I have seen evil.
It surrounds us every day.
Lingering in the eyes of the wealthy businessman.
His gaze burrowing into your heart.
To the recently widowed wife, talking to the darkness around her.
What pain has been so crushing?
So relentless?
To corrupt the love in us all?
We all have evil inside of us.
Yet most choose to hide it.
As if to turn your distressed face from the light.
Tears running down your cheeks in the darkness.
There are also tolerable alternatives.
The burning cuts.
The glistening pentagrams.
The liquor running down your guardians walls.
How has evil become a fact in life?
As we all wait for it to come knocking at our doors.
We can change our deadly fate into a mere nuisance.
We can stand against it.
To something as simple as a smile every day.
Or closing your eyes to feel the magnificent sun.
So if you ever feel truly corrupted, gaze at the fading sunset.
And brush the hot tears from your cheeks, to fully appreciate the visual masterpiece.
And show others that you have returned from the abyss.
Show them that if you can survive the evil, so can they.
